The House That Mulan Built: Eddie Murphy’s Incredible Former Estate Is Up for Sale

January 14, 2014, 12:26pm – We written about a lot of celebrity mansions, condos, and even a few private islands over the years, many of them with astronomical price tags and lackluster aesthetics. This place that Eddie Murphy used to own blows most of them out of the water, and we’re not even mad at the price. Murphy bought the place back in 1998 when Mulan, Dr. Dolittle, and Holy Man all hit theaters (two out of three ain’t bad). We don’t know how much he paid, but there were a few renovations done between then and the time he basically gave it away for $6 million to an investor in 2007. The place is currently on the market in the condition that it was in when he sold it, Shrek room and all, for $12 million.

That may sound like a lot of money, but once you take a look at the photos you can definitely see that it’s worth it. The 12,600-square-feet mansion in Granite Bay sits on 2.5 acres, has ten bedrooms, a 5,200-square-foot guesthouse, a 12-seat theater, an arcade, tennis courts, a nine-car garage, a 1,200-square-foot gym with a sauna and steam room, a $250,000 Luigi Colani-designed Schimmel Pegasus piano (one of 14 in the world), a massive pool, and pretty much anything else you could hope for (full list here). If this was his house in the ’90s, we can only imagine his place now.
